Coolah Tops National ParkCoolah is the gateway to the
stunning scenery of Coolah Tops National Park, a sub alpine park which
combines tall eucalypt forests, waterfalls, giant grass trees, lush green
ferns, scenic forest drives and panoramic views.
From Bundella or Pinnacle Lookouts there are panoramic views of the
Liverpool Plains.
The park’s high altitude is about 1200 metres, this means that it gets
fairly cold in winter, when snowfalls can occur. At most times of the year,
you will need warm clothing, especially if you’re camping.
Near the Barracks camping area is a stand of ancient Giant Grasstrees (Xanthorrhoea
australis) and some of the grass trees on this walk are estimated to be over
300 years old.
Waterfalls plunge from the plateau heights in the spectacular Coolah
National Park. The giant grass trees and tall, open forest with stands of
huge snow gums shelter abundant wildlife, including gliders, wallabies,
eagles and rare owls.
Kangaroos, wallabies and wombats are common. The magnificent yellow tailed
back cockatoo, rare species of owls and bats also inhabit the park.
Old forestry camps and sawmills from the 1940’s provide unique photo
opportunities.
